National Research
Understanding the spread of Christianity in Ireland, and Mapping Unreached Areas.
Our desire is to locate the current churches in Ireland, and to develop a map to identify currently unreached
areas.
We are undertaking this research in order to build a clearer and more accurate picture of church presence across the Republic of Ireland. At present, the landscape is often understood only in fragments, through denominational lists, local knowledge, or partial networks, which makes it difficult to see where churches are well established, where the witness is thin or fragile, and where places may have little Gospel presence at all. By mapping churches carefully and gathering reliable local information, we hope to create a resource that serves churches, leaders, and networks by helping them understand the current reality more clearly, strengthen what already exists, encourage wiser partnership, and think more strategically about gospel witness in the years ahead.
How?
In the recent weeks, we will have a picture of the beginning of this research project, an outline of stages and also ways for you to get involved in helping to compile the research.

One of the ways in which we are building the research is through collaborative sourcing. We want the churches in Ireland to contribute and collaborate as much as possible in order to make this both informative and useful as we get a picture of Gospel witness in Ireland.

To that end, we have created a Substack newsletter where we will provide updates to the research, and also explain a bit about the process. Our hope is that in doing this, we can learn from others who have completed similar work, and also perhaps encourage others to conduct this research in their own context around the world.
